Recruitment Update – Human Resources – January 2018

Welcome to the first of the new year’s HR updates from Oyster Search & Selection. 2018 has begun pretty much as 2017 ended, with a number of new mandates and the early indications are that, whatever “bumps in the road” we might see along the way, this year we will continue to see a steady stream of opportunities for HR professionals.

Of note, on the permanent side is the fact that some firms are reporting a dearth of candidates and, occasionally, offers being rejected as a result of either competition from other employers or “buy-backs” from existing employers. On the interim side, HR candidates reported a “soft” market at the end of 2017 and the need to be flexible on day rates.

Looking ahead, employers continue to be challenged by the almost endless drive for change, uncertainty over Brexit and, albeit early days yet, how best to address the issue of sexual harassment following widespread reporting in the press and other media. These and other matters will continue to ensure that HR is at the forefront of the many challenges employers face in 2018.

Recruitment Update – Human Resources – December 2017

First off, I’d like to wish those of you celebrating Christmas a very happy and peaceful time and to offer everyone my very best wishes for the year ahead.

Over the past 12 months, through my work at Oyster, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with clients and candidates on a whole host of assignments in Human Resources. Of particular note for me, has been the work that employers and HR professionals have been undertaking to encourage greater diversity and inclusion in the workplace. In addition, I’ve been extremely pleased to see and be able to share in the success of many of our candidates as they embark on new and exciting roles in HR.

I’m also grateful to those among you who have been supportive and encouraging of the work we do here at Oyster and hope that, in some small way, I’ve been able to do the same for you.

Looking ahead, and after 9 years in business running Oyster, I’m very excited about the prospects for next year and beyond as we continue to grow and diversify.

Here’s to 2018!

Michael

Recruitment Update – Human Resources – November 2017

Welcome to the latest recruitment update from Oyster Search & Selection. I’m pleased to report that the HR market remains buoyant with clients seeking to recruit candidates across the board, from more junior, sometimes entry-level roles in HR Administration through to more senior and strategic roles in areas such as Diversity & Inclusion and HR Business Partners.

Speaking of Diversity & Inclusion, as a result of the retained work we are currently undertaking in this area and the more general conversations we’ve been having with candidates, it’s striking just how many HR professionals are actively seeking more flexibility in their careers. For some this might mean working 3 or 4 days per week, for others, it may mean working from home on a regular basis and for others still, perhaps foregoing permanent employment altogether in favour of consultancy work. Equally striking is the dearth of opportunities for such candidates – many of them highly experienced and talented – to secure the flexibility they seek. There’s no doubt that employers are offering greater flexibility to existing employees and returnees, but the anecdotal evidence suggests that there is still some way to go.

Oyster would be particularly keen to hear from those HR professionals who are looking to work on a more flexible basis and especially candidates looking to jobshare and perhaps even “come as a pair” – something we are actively keen to promote to our clients. In the meantime, listed below is a sample of current opportunities we are actively recruiting for, some of which, offer flexibility.
